Timber Frame Architecture

We build timber frame buildings, which are simply post and beam structures, defined by a magnificent system of wooden framing members exposed to the interior. The timbers are connected by pegged mortise and tenon joinery, much like that found in fine furniture.

On the outside, a timber frame home can be as conventional as its neighbors, but open the door and it immediately becomes apparent that this is no ordinary house. The range of styles -- from rustic to traditional to contemporary -- is as wide as the imagination.

Riverbend's designers and craftsmen proudly carry forward a tradition that began thousands of years ago. By combining the proven techniques of the past with creative design and some of the most advanced engineering in the industry, we are continually expanding the range of timber frame styles and functions.

Better By Design

At Riverbend, custom design is customary. Our award-winning designers will listen to your ideas and help you develop them into a unique structure that reflects your tastes and accommodates your lifestyle.

You may also choose from more than 40 beautifully rendered designs in our new Planbook. Ranging in size from 1,000 to 4,500 square feet, the plans include traditional timber frame shapes, from the Cape Cod, to Ranches and Clerestories. The book also features numerous color photos and practical insights on design, finance, construction, and more. Visit the Request Form for details on how you can order a copy.

Enclosure System

The timber frame is enclosed with energy-saving foam core structural insulated panels (SIPs) that are designed, manufactured, and warranted by Riverbend's panel making subsidiary, Insulspan. To learn more about this modern construction method, visit Insulspan's web site.

This single-source responsibility ensures an exact fit between the frame and panels in terms of design, production, and delivery. The panels provide outstanding energy efficiency, floor plan flexibility, and the potential for dramatic spaces even in parts of the home where timbers might not be used.

As producer of both the frame and the panels, and the only company to scientifically test the two as a structural system, a Riverbend home can be uniquely suited to help you find the ideal balance among the various competing elements. In other words, we'll help you get the most from your money.

Warranted for Life

Riverbend warrants both the timber frame and the panels to be free of structural defects for as long as you own the home. Equally important, we will be here to serve you in the years to come.
