Pleasant Meadow

Pleasant Meadow

The Craftsman style comes to full bloom in the Pleasant Meadow plan. Its elevations are intriguing: almost ornate, but a closer look reveals that this is at heart a simple shape, a straightforward plan brought to full fruition.

The house rises from a square, forms a tee on the second floor, and finishes in a flourish of 13 distinct roof planes. Each plane honestly reflects the interior, and in keeping with the style, extends well beyond the outside wall.

Windows are profuse and well-proportioned. The porch is high, deep, wide and intended for use. Its massive timbers hint of what awaits within. The introduction continues in the foyer, where an open stairway leads the eye upward to the balcony and vaulted ceiling.

At the center of the plan is the great room, spanned by three hammer beams that rise magnificently to the roof, 25' overhead. The room's height is tempered by its area, which is perceptually enlarged by the absence of partition walls. Instead, separation between the kitchen, dining nook and great room is subtly suggested by a grid of posts and beams.

The free-flowing kitchen is designed for socializing, and serves the dining room, bar and nook with ease. Tucked away from the bustle are the sun room and master bedroom suite. Like most of the main rooms, these feature sloping roofs and exposed timber rafters.

On the second level, a balcony overlooks the great room and branches off to bedrooms two and three. Both are ample in size and volume with timbered roof peaks centered overhead
