Queenslander

This charming cottage makes a perfect vacation home. The home's long, narrow footprint and simple hipped roof design was inspired by Australian "station" or ranch houses. It is innovative and efficient, inspiring and restful, stalwart and graceful, cozy and airy all at the same time.
The porch circles the entire home and is cantilevered on gracefully arched tube steel brackets sprouting out from the foundation. About half of the porch area is screened to take in breezes, but not mosquitoes. Skylights open the home's interior to natural light that would otherwise be blocked by the porches.
At the center of the home is a 32' by 25' combination dining and living room with a fireplace at the living room end. Timber posts line the sides of the space and timber trusses hang over head. A galley style kitchen is open to this area, with a raised bar to accommodate casual eating and screen the living area from the countertop clutter.
On one end of the center living area is a spacious master bedroom suite, with fireplace, bath and storage loft. On the other end are a laundry, bath, two more bedrooms and a three-bunk sleeping loft tucked up in the timber rafters.
